Attempting To Recreate A Childhood Superhero Comic Book Collection

My favorite era of comic books is the Silver Age (1956-1970). That was what I read as a girl. I was a DC fan when I was growing up. The first superhero comic book I ever read was Justice League of America #9. It was one of the comic books my family bought at a used comic book sale at school. I was hooked!

I started buying comic books at the corner drug store. It was hit or miss sometimes. I was especially fond of the Legion of Superheroes. I would buy the first part of a two-part story -- only to be unable to find the second part. I also devoured Wonder Woman and Supergirl. (I could never decide which one of them I wanted to be.) I also read Superman, Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, Batman...

As an adult, I was able to fill in some of the gaps in my girlhood collection. I devoured them much as I had when I was a child. Then, due to a series of bad decisions (too complicated to explain here), my entire collection was gone. I felt bad, but it was only things I lost.

In 2017, I married the man I had been looking for all my life, even though I did not realize he was the one when we first met -- at a comic book convention. (The full story may appear as a future post.) Thanks to finding back issues at Source Comics and Games and eBay as well as the DC Omnibuses,Trade Paperbacks and Showcase Editions, my dream of recreating my childhood collection may not be so difficult after all!

There may still be some gaps, but having the bulk of my collection again will be a dream come true!
