Dear Baby,
Like me, you tend to be shy. You hid from me the first two
or three days after I moved in. You
finally realized I wasn’t going anywhere, so you had to make the best of it.
Your Dad told me if threw you a catnip mousie and you brought it back for me to
throw again, you’d accepted me. It made me happy the first time you did that.
It still makes me happy every time you do that. This summer, I have woken up to
find you’ve left a catnip mousie at my feet at least once.
We bonded the first Thanksgiving together. With so many
people around, we were both feeling overwhelmed. You retreated to the bedroom the
whole time and one night I joined you there. This summer, almost every time I
sit down in Dad’s chair, you’re in my lap within a few minutes.
When I started doing drawings of cats as superheroes, I
chose you to be the model for Wonder Cat. You’re a natural born model, Baby!
You were the one who took the longest to get used to Streaky.
But now the two of you take turns chasing each other. You still have fights –
you need to keep reminding her that you’re the alpha female.
We’ve come a long since we first met. Even though Dad will
always be your most favorite person in the whole world, you have room in your
heart for me also.
Love,
Mom
