Today the school I work at was closed due to weather. With an unexpected day off, I had high hopes of spending a lot of time dedicated to being a fangirl.
Things I planned to do:
Finish reading a silver-age Batman Giant Comic Book
Wash the fabric for my Wonder Woman poodle skirt
Cut out the pattern pieces for my Wonder Woman poodle skirt
Watch the first disk of the Justice League animated series (it didn't hold my attention very well the first time, but after getting hooked on the series, I needed to watch it again)
See how well my Wonder Woman wig would look styled in a ponytail
What I actually did:
Finished reading a silver-age Batman Giant Comic Book
Washed the fabric for my Wonder Woman poodle skirt
Watched the first disk of the Justice League animated series
I accomplished three out of five. Not too bad, but not as well as I expected.
Here's hoping to get the other two done by the weekend!

My Secret Life As Wonder Cat, As Told To Eileen Hanzel
I knew there was
something different about me when I was a kitten. I could do things other kittens could not do.
I could run faster, jump higher and stop anything that tried to fight with us.
“You will do something special
when you are older,” my Mama told me many times.
She was right. Ever since I
became Wonder Cat, I have done many special things. There are so many stories I
could tell. But since it is best to start at the beginning, I will start with
my first adventure as Wonder Cat.
I was living with two cats and
two humans. I was a little over two years old when my first mission as Wonder
Cat happened.
With my super hearing, I could
hear a cat crying. No one else in the house could hear it. Using my super strength, I pushed out one of
the screens. I ran to where the cat was. He was all alone in an alley. It was
starting to rain.
“What’s wrong?” I asked.
He shivered. “The people took
everything out of the house and put it in a truck two days ago. I think they moved
away and left me here. I don’t think – I don’t think – they’re coming back for
me.” He shivered again. “I’m cold and wet and hungry.”
The more he told me, the angrier
I became. “I know a place where you’ll be safe. Hop on my back.”
“But I’m too heavy!”
“No, you’re not.” Once he was on my back, I ran all the way to the
Furrin’ and Purrin’ Animal Shelter. I knew he would be safe there until he
found his forever home.
“I’m Trevor, by the way,” he
said with a slight sniffle after he got off my back. “What’s your name?”
“You can call me Wonder Cat. Now
you need to meow as loudly as you can.” I ran to hide behind some bushes. I did
not want the people at the shelter to think I needed a home also.
He started meowing as if his
heart breaking. Having been left behind by people he thought loved him, it
probably was true.
The door opened and a young
woman picked him up. “Oh, you poor thing! You’ll be safe here.” She started
petting him and his meows turned into purrs.
I raced back home, hoping no one
would notice I had been gone. The other cats were napping, so I joined them
after I repaired the screen. I had completed my first mission as Wonder Cat.
Three Months Later
The other cats were napping, so
I decided to go out on patrol. There was nothing out of the ordinary so far.
A tap on a window caught my ear.
Sitting in a window was Trevor.
“Thank you, Wonder Cat! The most
wonderful family took me in! They told the nice lady at the shelter that I was
their forever cat now and for the rest of my life.”
He was purring. I started
purring also. “I’m so happy! I’ll try to visit you again.” We touched noses
through the window.
I headed back home, happy to
know my first mission had a happy ending.

Book I Am Currently Reading
During a recent trip to Source Comics and Games in Roseville, MN, I picked up a book that piqued my interest: Make A Nerdy Living, by Alex Langley. (A full review will follow after I have read the entire book.)
So far, it has been amazing. Each chapter focuses on one way to turn nerdy activities into a way to make a living. The first chapter was on blogging. As a result, I made the decision to post an entry at least once a week, even if it is short.
On the first reading, I am only reading the chapters that are about nerdy activities in which I have a strong interest. On a subsequent reading, I will read the chapters I skipped this time. Each includes interviews with people who are making a living doing whatever the chapter's theme is.
What I have read so far makes me think this book is a highly valuable reference tool for anyone who wants to turn nerdy activities into an income source.

Long-Overdue Cosplay Update
The cosplay I had been working on has ground to a halt. The last time I tried on what I had made so far resulted in the sound of a seam ripping. Until I lose some weight, that cosplay is no longer possible.
I am now going in a completely different direction. It is a different take on Wonder Woman. As with the Angelique cosplay, I have gained too much weight to look good in a Wonder Woman costume (I do have a pattern for it and will make it one day). Instead, I will be re-imagining her as a 50's high school student.
I have most of the items I need: wig, tiara, bracelets, a red 3/4 sleeve cardigan, a white blouse, white ankle socks, and red and white saddle shoes. All that is left is a gold neck scarf, a Wonder Woman patch to put on the sweater, and a poodle-style skirt made out of royal blue fabric with white stars. (I have a crinoline on order to wear under the poodle-style skirt. Cheaper then trying to make it myself.) The remaining items are all available on Amazon.
The plan is to have it ready by the MCBA SpringCon in May.
A photo will be posted when it is finished.
