“Angelique, what’s wrong?” Randy
was puzzled by the girl’s sudden coolness toward him.
“I saw
you coming out of Rosalia’s room.”
“I’m a
guardian. It’s my duty to help the queen candidates.”
She walked away from him. “I think we ought to
end this now.”
“End
it? But we’ve barely started. There’s so much for both of us to learn about
each other. . .” He could feel her withdrawing emotionally from him further.
“Angelique, give me another chance. I know I shouldn’t have gone to her room,
but nothing happened between us.”
“Randy,
I. . .” She choked back her tears. “I. .
.”
He
grabbed her hand before she could run away.
“Please. . .” He brought her hand to his lips and placed a feather-light
kiss on it. “Forgive me.”
She
looked into his sky-blue eyes and could see his sincerity. She smiled and
squeezed his hand. “I’m sorry I acted so silly. I trust you. But Rosalia is so
-”
He
placed a finger against her lips. “She has one fault I could never overlook.”
“What?”
“She’s
not you.” He pulled her into his arms and just held her. He vowed to prove to her that she had no
reason to be jealous of the other queen
candidate.
