Angelique was brushing her hair before she went to bed. It
hadn’t been an easy day. She’d had a lesson with Clavis. He seemed to be the
most difficult of the guardians to please. Maybe he was the guardian of
darkness because he was moody. Or maybe being the guardian of darkness had
caused him to become moody.
Oh
well. At least tomorrow’s lesson would be with Luva and she always got along
just fine with him. He was patient with her and extremely intelligent without
being conceited about it. She sometimes wondered if there was anything he
didn’t know. If there was, though, he’d know exactly where to look up the
information. He’d always been willing to help her whenever she needed it.
But all
this was taking time away from being able to be with Randy. If she did become
Queen, what would happen to their relationship? She’d have even less time then.
If only. . . Maybe it would have been better if he had never kissed her. No.
Even if nothing more ever happened between them, that kiss would be a precious
memory she wanted to keep for her whole life.
A noise
outside her window interrupted her thoughts. She opened the window cautiously.
Not that she thought she was in any kind of danger here, but it didn’t hurt to
be careful.
“Randy!”
It was as if her thoughts had conjured him. “What. . .”
He came
into her room from the tree he’d climbed and took her hands in his. “It’s been
too long.” He didn’t put his arms around
her, but he brushed her lips gently with his. “Good night, Angelique. Sweet
dreams.”
He was
gone as suddenly as he’d appeared. She touched her fingers to where his lips
had touched hers, and she had a feeling she knew exactly what she would dream
about.
