“Angelique!”
She
looked up at Zephel. He seemed more hot headed than usual since Randy had
announced they were a couple two nights earlier. She waited for him to
continue.
“Why
Randy?”
“I
don’t understand.”
“You
never gave me a chance.”
She raised
her eyebrows. “You never made me think you were interested.”
“If I
had, would you be with me instead of him?” He crossed his arms over his chest.
Would
she? she wondered. She really couldn’t see herself with this hot headed
guardian, even if she hadn’t fallen in love with Randy.
“Well?
I’m more handsome. I’m stronger. Steel beats wind easily.”
“Are
you sure about that?” Randy’s tone was amused. “You didn’t even know I had
showed up here.” He smiled at Angelique. “Of course, your companion easily distracts
a man.”
Zephel
snorted. “When you get tired of him, you know where to find a real man.”
“Oh,
yes. I know exactly where I can find Oscar.”
“Oscar?”
Zephel threw up his arms and walked away.
“Oscar?”
Randy repeated.
She
kissed his cheek. “I was only teasing Zephel. I wanted to deflate his ego a
little. You’re the only man I want to be with.”
“Good.”
He put his arm around her and they walked toward the lake.
